2. Length of use

Quality is important as the lights will be on for long periods of time. The duration of light usage in greenhouses is based on “photoperiods.” This means that the period, in which, the light will be used may vary. For example, one may use lighting for a “12-hour photoperiod.” This means that within 24 hours cycle, lighting will be used for 12 hours and 12 hours with no light at all.

3. Purpose

Buy a light that will focus more on your desired results. For instance, if you want to motivate the growth of your flowering plants such as orchids, it is best to buy a light that will put more weight on the “spectrum colors” like red and blue and the “far-red wavelengths.”

4. Electrical efficiency

Look for lights that conserve energy to keep your electric at a reasonable level.

5. Heat

Bright lights are not always good lights. Too many lights or the wrong type will cause excess heat which may damage plants suited to cooler climates.
